Sofia
Sofia is the capital and largest city of Bulgaria, located in the western part of the country at the foot of Vitosha Mountain. With a rich history spanning over 7,000 years, Sofia is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Europe.
As of 2023, the population is approximately 1.3 million. Sofia serves as Bulgaria’s economic, cultural, and educational hub, with a rapidly growing IT and technology sector. The city’s name comes from the “St. Sophia” Church, a symbol of Sofia. Historically, the city has been known by various names, including Serdica (during Thracian and Roman times) and Sredets (in the Middle Ages).
